Roman Blinds Measurement Guide

Follow our step-by-step instructions to accurately measure for your Roman blinds, ensuring a perfect fit and professional appearance in any room.

Installation Types

Over Frame/Wall

Choose the installation type that best suits your window architecture and light control preferences. Inside mounts provide a clean, built-in look, while outside mounts maximize light blockage and can make windows appear larger.

Inside Window Bay

Measuring Height

Measure the full height of your window recess in three different places (left, center, and right). Record the smallest measurement to ensure your blind fits within the recess. Subtract 1 cm from this measurement to allow the blind to operate smoothly without catching on the sill or frame.

Windows are rarely perfectly square, especially in older properties. Taking multiple measurements helps account for any irregularities in the window frame.

Measuring Width

Measure the width of your window recess at three points (top, middle, and bottom). Use the smallest measurement and subtract 1 cm to ensure your blind doesn't rub against the sides of the recess when being raised or lowered.

For recessed installations, precision is crucial. Even a few millimeters can make the difference between a perfect fit and a blind that catches on the frame.

Over Frame/Wall

Measuring Height

For outside mount installations, measure from where you want the top of the blind to sit down to your desired endpoint. If covering the entire window, add at least 10 cm to the window height to minimize light leakage and provide better insulation.

For optimal light blocking and a more luxurious appearance, extend your Roman blind at least 15 cm beyond the window frame on all sides, especially if the room requires darkness for sleeping.

Measuring Width

Measure the width of your window frame and add at least 10 cm (5 cm on each side) to prevent light from seeping through the edges. For windows that require complete blackout, consider adding 15-20 cm to the total width.

When mounting outside the recess, ensure you add equal amounts to both sides for a symmetrical, professionally installed appearance.

Multiple Blinds on a Loggia

For continuous windows or loggia installations, maintain consistent measuring techniques across all windows. For side windows that meet at corners, subtract 4.5 cm from the width measurement to accommodate the mounting brackets and ensure proper clearance.

To create a cohesive look across multiple windows, install all blinds at the same height, even if individual window frames vary slightly. This creates a clean, uniform line that enhances the room's aesthetic.

Child Safety Warning

All our Roman blinds are designed with child safety as a priority. To prevent accidents, ensure that any operating cords or chains remain at least 150 cm above floor level. Always install the provided safety devices to secure loose cords and keep them out of reach of children and pets.
